Architecture and Design --- More measuring

To prepare you for the house or complex you are about to design it is important that you get a feeling for the dimensions and the square footage of various types of rooms. Measure the rooms in your house and write the dimensions below. Add room information as needed. You may use the foot method of measuring or a yardstick. When measuring you may round up or down to the nearest foot.

In class you will then find another student who has a higher square footage and lower square footage for each room that you have and write the square footage in the table below. This will give you a range of what room sizes are for a particular room/purpose. You will be able to refer to these dimensions when you are planning your house/complex.

Fill in the following table.

Circle: house apartment condo/townhouse

Class
Dimensions of: (Length x Width) Square Feet High Low

kitchen _____ x ______ _________ ______ ______

bathroom _____ x ______ _________ ______ ______

bedroom _____ x ______ _________ ______ ______
(small)

bedroom _____ x ______ _________ ______ ______
(master)

living room _____ x ______ _________ ______ ______

dining room _____ x ______ _________ ______ ______

_________ _____ x ______ _________ ______ ______

_________ _____ x ______ _________ ______ ______

As you go through your house or apartment take a critical look at the room and see if you would change anything like adding more light switches or if youíd like another window. Make any notes below for your future reference.

Have fun with this !
