SWIMMING STUDY SHEET

Newton’s Third Law of Motion: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. (This is extremely important when moving through water)

Streamlining: Getting your body into a position in which it can move efficiently through water. (Things that are streamlined: A canoe, a torpedo, otters, seals)

Buoyancy: The tendency for an object to float when submersed in fluid. (Some people are more buoyant than others)

Sculling: Pulling or Pushing on the water with your arms or legs.

Recovering: Moving your arms or legs into position to scull

Gliding: Moving through the water in a streamlined position without sculling.
