art 1a
A one semester elective, this course introduces 7th and 8th grade students to art from many different cultures. This class may be taken more than once since the course content varies.

Students learn concepts in drawing and painting such as optical perspective, and using highlight and shadow to create form. Art images from Master Artists provide the context in which students work.

An example of media utilized includes opportunities for sculpting in clay and wire, printmaking materials, and computer technology. Guest speakers and field trips round out the curriculum.

Art 1B
This course, which is open to 7th and 8th graders, builds on the concepts and techniques begun in Art 1A. It is also possible to enroll in Art 1B more than once as long as Art 1A has been successfully completed.

The curriculum includes drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, sculpture and graphic art techniques. There are occasional guest speakers and field trips.

Art 1B students maintain an individual sketchbook that becomes their personal drawing journal with teacher encouragement, critique, and comments throughout.
