A Writing Handbook for Families
Dear Parents (Grandparents, Gardians, Aunts, Uncles),
Over the past several years J. L. Stanford Middle School has focused on improving student writing. Staff members from cross-crricular areas have participated in staff development training using the Six-Trait Writing Model. This booklet is provided with helpful information as to how you can support your student writers at home as we work with them at school.
The content of the original handbook created by E. L. Wright Middle School of South Carolina was adapted from work by Ruth Culham and Vicki Spandel of the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory And compiled
by Maureen Curran, Kent School District, 1998. The handbook within these pages was adapted by Pier Angeli La Place of the Palo Alto Unified School District, 2003.
