6th Grade Math CurriculumData About UsEngages students in investigations about themselves. The unit introduces key concepts and processes in statistics and analysis. Students investigate the formulation of questions, gathering data, organizing and representing data, measures of central tendency and interpreting data.Prime Time:Addresses the basics of number theory: factors, primes, multiples, prime and composite numbers, even and odd numbers, square numbers, greatest common factors, and least common multiples.Shapes and Designs:The overall goal of Shapes and Designs is to have students discover patterns and regularities in the relations among sides and angles of basic polygons and understand how those patterns can be helpful in using polygonal shapes to create interesting designs and useful structures.Bits and Pieces I & II:In Bits and Pieces I, the first unit on rational numbers, the investigations asked students to make sense of the meaning of fractions, decimals, and percents in different contexts. In Bits and Pieces II, students will use these new numbers to help make sense of many different situations. |
